Legislative Priorities

RIABA was instrumental in designing legislation to ensure coverage for ABA services through private insurance  – RI was the 27th state to enact insurance reform on June 30, 2011.

RIABA worked with Senator Ed O’Neill and Rep. Peter Palumbo to pass legislation in 2012 to provide for licensure of the BCBA credential through the Department of Health.

Dr Andrea Chait and Dr Jane Carlson were appointed to the Behavior Analyst Licensing Board by Dr Michael Fine, Director of the Department of Health, with the approval of Govenor Lincoln Chafee.  State licensing for BCBA’s and BCaBA’s began on January 1, 2016 and is a great success for all involved – children, family member, and BCBA professionals.
